While referring to Protection and Anti-soil erosion works along Siboh Korong River, Tuki said the project has been sanctioned by the ministry of Urban Development (GoI) under UIDSSMT (Urban Infrastructure Development Scheme for Small & Medium Towns) on February 2009 to protect Pasighat township from soil erosion and flooding by Siboh Korong and to safeguard particularly the existing infrastructure like Central Agriculture University campus and other areas of the river banks.

The minister was accompanied by Er. Taba Tedir, CE-cum-Director (UD) and Er. Kuru Sera, CE, PWD(CZ).

Before concluding his speech the minister conveyed his heartiest thanks to the general people for their supports and brining back the Congress government in the state.

Replying to the memorandum submitted by the Education minister Tuki assured to put best efforts to fulfill the demands after discussing the same with the state’s HCM and the concerned engineers.

Earlier, the Minister (EDN) Bosiram Siram in his brief speech demanded 40 nos. of busses to Pasighat under JNNURM / UIDSSMT, constitution of Urban Local Body with required infrastructure and supporting staffs and to accord priority for sanctioning of Shopping

Complex, Indoor Stadium, Cultural Hall and to implement Municipal Solid Waste Management for Pasighat at the earliest possible. DIPRO

Tuki also laid foundation stone of 3-mega scheme at a time which included shopping complex cum unemployed women Hostel under HUPA Scheme, working women Hostel, Old Age Pension & Destitute Children Home and Community Toilet under UD Scheme and Shopping Complex under UD Scheme at Basar on Jan 31. Basar, an ADC HQ being at central location, all these schemes after completion would be of immense importance in future which will cater service to Upper Subansiri, West Siang and Upper Siang.

Stressing on judicious implementation and timely completion of the projects to avoid cost over-run that too without compromising quality and specification of the guidelines, Tuki during his address informed that third party Monitoring Committee is there from the Central Govt. and if found loopholes in the works after enquiry may deter the future funding of the projects/ schemes.

MLA Gojen Gadi extended heartfelt thanks to Nabam Tuki for introduction of such important projects at Basar. Talking about shopping complex, he said that 1st priority will be given to unemployed youth to ease out unemployment and with a room of 30 or 40 in each complex with nominal rent, these projects will serve the purpose. ‘Nation is safe if jawans are safe’

ITANAGAR, Feb 1: “The nation will remain safe if the jawans are safe and healthy”, said DIGP (training) Robin Hibu to energize the jawans during a programme for capacity building of law enforcement officers and police personnel on lifestyle-related diseases and tobacco control act organized today.

“You all are most of the time exposed to unsafe lifestyle, sexual behaviour, tempted to smoking and various tobacco products,” he said and cited an example that if a jawan spends Rs 60 a day on smoking or other tobacco-product he would be spending around Rs 6.7 lakh in his 30–year career, which otherwise he could have saved and used for good purposes.

Anyone quitting tobacco consumption will be rewarded, Hibu announced to the gathering. Moreover, DIGP also thanked the organizers and mentioned that this training would be quite helpful for the common people too, as it paves the way to effectively enforce the tobacco control act by the officers and police personnel. The programme was organized by the Itanagar Press Club (IPC), the Voluntary Health Association of India (VHAI) and the Arunachal Pradesh State AIDS Control Society (APSACS) to sensitize several law enforcement officers and 400 Jawans at the 3rd India Reserve Battalion (IRBN) Headquarters.

Dr Lobsang Jampa, state epidemiologist and Dr S, Tsering, radiation oncologist, Arunachal State Hospital, gave clear picture on how tobacco consumption has been claiming around 8 lakh lives yearly in India. Cigarette or bidi smoke contains around 4,000 poisons, of which 40 are cancer agents, they said, and cautioned that such consumption would reduce the life span of human-being as it causes numerous diseases.

APSACS project director Dr Emi Rumi left an indelible mark on the participants with grotesque photographs of sexual organs deformed by sexually transmitted diseases. He advised them to always remember that their good and safe health is their assets.

‘If I could quit smoking after 60 years and become more stronger, why not you? - The question by Dr LR Choudhury of RK Mission Hospital evoked a thunderous applause, perhaps a sign of approval by the smokers amongst the participants. To another query why the government does not ban the production of such harmful products, doctors replied that the pro-tobacco industry lobby was drag on the ban of production.

VHAI senior manager Ajay Tripathy, while speaking on tobacco control law, COTPA, and its rampant violation, called for strict implementation of smoking-ban in public places and sell of tobacco products to those below 18 years of age in the state, particularly Capital Complex.

IPC president Pradep Kumar assured to institutionalize the programme and conduct it in all IRBN HQs besides helping in forming training modules for the Police Training College, Banderdewa in association with VHAI and APSACS.

Commandant of 3rd IRBN Babu Taloh assured that he is hopeful of the Jawans following the health tips given on the occasion. Henceforth, all the officers and Jawans would help ensure the strict enforcement of tobacco control act, he mentioned.

Hundred jawans underwent voluntary blood testing for HIV, which was arranged by the RKM Hospital unit on behalf of the APSACS and VHAI Project Khusi, according to a joint press release.

AAPSU to go for boycott of Chinese goods from Feb 8

ITANAGAR, Feb 1: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) has decided to go for boycott of Chinese goods with effect from February 8 in the state of Arunachal Pradesh as decided earlier. The modus operandi of the student activists will be door to door visit of every shop to identify any presence of Chinese goods.

AAPSU in a release today sought cooperation from the traders community in its movement. Enough time has been given for the disposal of Chinese goods at the request of Arunachal Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ACCI) in this regard, the union said.

The release said the boycott call has been necessitated in the backdrop of repeated Chinese claim over our state and the ‘diplomatic romancing by the government of India’. “The approach adopted by the union government in the case of Chinese issue is lot to be desire and one of the cases in study is the alleged captivity of one Chabo Chader, a villager of Gumsing Taying under Taksing Circle of Upper Subansiri by Chinese army. He went missing from Asaphila border area since August 18th 2007 and the issue was pursued by the earlier AAPSU leadership even at the level of home ministry and the then Lok Sabha Member Kiren Rijiju has raised the issue in parliament and at that time external affair joint secretary Ashok K Kantha has said that the matter has been taken up through diplomatic channels as well as through flag meetings, border personal meeting and the hotline at bumla, however till date there is no trace of Chader thus vindicating the union apprehension that when in case of China our union government can even forego the safety of innocent citizen of Arunachal Pradesh.” AAPSU president said while justifying boycott to Chinese goods.

The AAPSU president said ‘it is also pertinent to note that the successive central government has utterly neglected our state in case of development especially in the aspect of border road and its disturbing to quote from Defence sources as expressed by Lieutenant General BS Jaswal, General Officer Commanding, Northern Command that India lags far behind China in military infrastructure along the Line Of Actual Control(LAC), China has built all weather metalled road leading up to its border posts facing Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh and Demchok & Fukche in Ladakh’.

The union also strongly condemned the Daporijo incident, where the peace and tranquility of the area has been disturbed. AAPSU said ‘as per our sources, skirmish broke out at Daporijo Market between the Central Reserve Forces (CRPF) and public owing to non payment of orange prices by some CRPF jawans who were off duty’. One person has been seriously injured and is brought down to the capital for further treatment, the union said while acknowledging the yeoman service given by Para military forces. The union urged upon them to inculcate a spirit of Friendship and carry out their duties with a sense of human approach.

The recurring incidents of Public-CRPF spat all over the state in the recent time in places like Pasighat, Roing, Itanagar does not augur well for a healthy society and call on the CRPF authorities to immediately rein in their jawans in order to stop such ugly incidents in future, the release added.

PMU &PIU appointees assured

ITANAGAR, Feb 1: Expert appointees under PMU and PIU of Jawahar Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) on Monday submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister (CM) Dorjee Khandu to resolve their grievances. The two basic points on which they drew the attention of CM was early engagement of these experts in work and consider their remuneration from date of formal joining that is from month of August when their appointment letter was issued.

Expert appointees claimed that CM has assured to seriously look into their grievances.

Citizens urged to maintain peace at Daporijo

ITANAGAR, Feb 1: Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) is again in news for wrong reason. Just few days after they were involved in ugly clash with local residents of Roing town, this time CRPF jawans became hate figure in Daporijo town following Sunday’s unsavory incident. Daporijo town had witnessed tense moment on Sunday following the reported clashes between CRPF jawans and local population. Though situation is tense authority claimed that everything is under their grip. It was on Sunday evening that a fight broke out reportedly between locals and CRPF jawans, when patrolling team of central force intervened on seeing local youth bashing a BRTP personnel.

According to the report received from the Daporijo police sources lone BRTP personnel was bargaining with a woman orange seller in the main market resulting in argument over pricing. Two youths joined in argument and later assaulted BRTP personnel, sources informed. CRPF jawans who were patrolling in the area tried to interrupt which was resented by local population. Locals have accused CRPF jawans of foul mouthing and severely beating the youths who had interfere to save woman. In the entire incident one student received minor injuries and was released from hospital after first aid.

While talking to this daily both deputy commissioner (DC) and superintendent of police (SP) Upper Subansiri asked citizen to maintain peace in the area. “Today there was a meeting of area MLAs, local public, panchayat leaders and students representative and everybody present resolved to maintain peace in Daporijo town,” told DC H.K Shalla over phone. Also speaking over phone SP Mari Basar asked public not to believe in rumours and help authorities in solving crisis. He also dismissed report that local public had open fire on CRPF jawans and claimed that Daporijo town is limping back to normal.

Review meeting of tourism department

ITANAGAR, Feb 1: A day long Review Meeting of Tourism Department was held under the chairmanship of Parliamentary Secretary (Tourism), Gojen Gadi in the Conference Half of the Directorate of Tourism, Itanagar today.

All District Tourism Officers, District Planning Officers i/c DTO, Tourist information Officers were present. Bandhana Deori, Secretary (Tourism), A.K. Singh, Director (Tourism) and officers of the department took part in the meeting.

Secretary (Tourism) Bandana Deori elaborating the purpose of the review meeting informed that review of the ongoing projects for infrastructure development in all the districts needs to be done to find out the progress as well as any problems faced by the district officers. Secretary further stressed upon constitution of District Level Tourism Development Committees. All schemes should be duly recommended by the Committee for forwarding to the government of India for sanction. She instructed all the district officers to fix reserve price of all tourism amenities and submit the report for lease out to private parties.

Parliamentary Secretary (Tourism) Gojen Gadi while welcoming the delegates informed that Chief Minister has stressed upon improvement of tourism infrastructures in the state to make tourism at par with other tourist destinations like Sikkim. There is lot of scope in our state as far as tourism potential is concerned. He expressed his desire to bring Tourism in the fore front in the state and excel the department as the most efficient one. For which he requested everyone to work hard and achieve their goals. He also requested Secretary (Tourism) to see that close coordination is maintained among all the officers from the directorate level to the district level for quick and efficient implementation of the schemes. He also informed that henceforth no scheme would be forwarded to the Govt. of India without the recommendation of the newly constituted District Level Tourism Development Committee.

Detailed deliberations were held with the officers district wise on the developmental activities viz., construction of tourist lodges, way side amenities, etc. Scheme wise performances were discussed and problems faced by the district officers were heard.

In the second session of the meeting, discussions were held for identification and development of new hill stations in the state to realize full tourism potentials of Indian Himalayas.

Binny Yanga selected for COISA Award

ITANAGAR, Feb 1: Binny Yanga, Proprietor, Oju Craft Center has been selected for COSIA Entrepreneurship Award for North East Region by Chamber of Small Industry Associations, Thane, Maharashtra. The award will be presented to her in North East India MSME meet 2010 to be held on 11th February at Guwahati. The meet will be inaugurated by Union State Minister for MSME Dinsha J. Patel. She is the only lady from North East India to get this award in 2009-10.

Memo to DC to check drug menace at Mebo

ITANAGAR, Feb 1: Drug menace has engulfed entire Mebo area under East Siang district causing a serious concern for the society, especially parents.

The ugly tentacles of drugs, like opium, Indian made foreign liquor (IMFL) and rice bear have not even spared the school going children, govt employees like teachers and police personnel from its clutch, who are considered to be the torch bearer and custodians of law in the society, said a memorandum submitted to East Siang deputy commissioner by Mebo Elite Society.

Opium and ganja allegedly smuggled from Upper Siang and Lower Subansiri districts and unauthorized selling of wine in every grocery and pan gumti have been the main causes of increased drug addiction among the youths resulting in rise of petty crimes and ruin of social fabric, the memorandum, a copy of which was also made available to the Press, said.

While urging the DC for conducting a massive drive throughout Mebo area to check illegal drug business and unauthorized selling of local rice bear commercially, MES suggested for shouldering the responsibility for stopping such immoral practices to HGBs and GBs of their respective areas.

The checking drive should be continued for atleast one year to completely wipe out the menace from the area.

Reh celebrated with traditional fervour

The central Reh celebration 2010 gets a new look, colour with festivity here at the Central Rehko here today amidst massive gathering of people from the community, host of guest from UK, USA, Holland, officials and staffs from department and people from all walk of life.

Participating in the festival as the chief guest Takar Marde RD & Panchayat Raj Minister gets fascinated with the modern and traditional dances performed by the school student, ladies and small kids in full spirit.

“Glittering ornamental dresses is looking like rainbow and the song sung like nightingale are thing of pride for the Idu community to preserve and promote for days to come. The song, drama, folklore and music are rich asset of one’s community which needs to be keeping it alive for generation to uphold one’s identity”, the Marde observed.

He strongly appealed and advised the youngsters to pay respect to the senior and maintain a close affinity to one’s tradition and culture in order to protect them from the influence of foreign culture.

While highlighting the benefit of RD and Panchayati Raj system, the minister exhorts the educate youths to join their hand with panchayat in alleviating poverty and fulfill the objectives of the department to bring all around development at the grass root level.

Kamtok Lowang MLA as a guest of honour made a sincere appeal to the Idu brothers and sisters to learn their rich handloom & handicraft to maintain distinctive identity that the community is famous for. “The rich mother tongue has to respect and practice to avoid its extinction simultaneously paying respect to Hindi and English for posterity”, the Lowang advised. Idus of Lohit celebrates Reh

Three-day Reh festival began at Telluliang village today with a clear and loud message to practice, protect and preserve indigenous faith and culture for posterity.

Winter school on rice fish integrated farming concludes

ITANAGAR, Feb 1: A Winter School on ‘Rice fish integrated farming in high altitude wet rice lands’ concluded on January 31.

It was sponsored by DST, New Delhi and organized by the Department of Zoology, Rajiv Gandhi University from January 11 – 31.

While addressing the participants at the concluding function, Professor A. Mitra, Chairman and the Vice chancellor in-charge of RGU who is also a well known environmental economist of the region, said that the development of environment-friendly farming and food production systems are the challenges in the light of increasing demands of food items utilizing all potential ecologies in a sustainable means, maintaining environmental cleanliness and sharing globalization & economic liberalization. Rice fish integrated farming is such a sustainable activity which may be a best practice in this direction to small and marginal farmers for enhancing their livelihood option. He pointed out that developing human resources in the areas is the need of the hour which has already been taken by RGU through organizing this highly relevant winter school on the subject.

In the valedictory report Dr. D.N.Das, Course coordinator and Associate professor of the department explained the motto behind organizing such school.

He reported that a total of 68 lectures comprising of theories, principles, models, management protocols of each of the major and allied components were delivered by the experts of various field from both national and regional level including the experts from the organizing university.

Total of 23 participants comprised of University and College teachers, extension officials, research Scholars having various interdisciplinary subject back ground of life sciences, agricultural sciences, veterinary sciences and fishery sciences from different parts of Northeast India participated in the school actively.

Dr. R.C.Joshi, Dean Faculty of Life sciences, RGU while declaring the names of the best male and female participants of the school, expressed his happiness for participants’ interest for sharing and exchanging new knowledge and encouraged them a lot in the context of future direction and strategies of R& D thrust on integrated farming system in Northeastern region as intended by the school in due course of time.

District level disaster management training held

BOMDILA, Feb 1: A 3-days District Level Disaster Management training on search and rescue and first aid was held in the district headquarters Bomdila to acquaint and make the people aware of the impeding risk factors keeping in view the approaching monsoon seasons. The 3-days training gains importance as the district has already experienced several natural calamities in the last few years resulting in loss of valuable human lives and properties worth in lacs.

Delivering the key note address, Addl. DC Rinchin Tashi reiterated that awareness is the key factor. Though the man made disasters can be done away with or minimized to a lesser extent, one can’t simply wish away the natural disasters. Humans can’t fight with the natural disasters but can surely take precautionary steps to mitigate the losses and its after effects, said ADC Tashi. Therefore, awareness through such training programmes is the guru mantra, he added. Urging the departmental officers for conducting such training programmes in every circle and blocks of the district, the ADC underscored the roles that the Police, Military and paramilitary forces, NGOs, NCC, Scouts, Guides, NSS and the paramedics could play during any natural calamity.

Besides the power point presentations by the DRRO, the training programme consisted of search and rescue operation by the police, first aid and emergency medical response by the Medical department and the search and rescue operation and the role of Army by the 5-Mtn Division. DIPRO

Steps taken to strengthen PRI: Marde

ROING, Feb 1: Takar Marde, Minister RD & PR had an interaction with the Panchayat Leaders and DRDA Staffs of the district separately at Circuit House yesterday. He said that initiative has been taken to strengthen the Panchayati Raj Institution of the state and efforts are on to rectify the lacunas made in the past.

Heeding to the salary problem of DRDA staff, he said that it is his first priority to solve the non-payment of salary to the DRDA employees. He informed that a committee has been formed to look into the matter and submission of report by the committee is awaited, after which the matter would be taken up with higher authority of the state and the center. He, however, expressed confidence on Chief Minister, Dorjee Khandu led Govt that some solutions would come up shortly to redress the grievances of the DRDA employees. He further said that it is high time that the state should generate its own revenue and for this the natural resources like hydro potentials should be harnessed. He appealed the Panchayat Leaders to create mass awareness regarding Hydro Power Generation among the common masses.

Earlier, Chiliko Meto, Zilla Chairperson submitted a memorandum to the minister regarding devolution of powers in 29 subjects as per 73rd Amendment to the Panchayati Raj Institution, merger of all parallel agencies like DRDA, SSA, NRHM and National Mission Horticulture into PRI, Timely release of salary for DRDA Staffs and inclusion of the district under Backward Grant Fund (BRGF) immediately, etc. Other PR members also highlighted their grievances before the minister.

T. Tatak, Project Director DRDA also highlighted the hardships faced by the DRDA staff due non-payment of salary for the last 8 months. She also informed that Lower Dibang Valley DRDA is the least funded and smallest unit in the state due to which many schemes like NREGA could not be implemented fully due to insufficient funding. DLMC meeting on development schemes

TAWANG, Feb 1: A District Level Monitoring Committee meeting of various schemes under the PM Package and SPA was held in the Office Chamber of the Additional Deputy Commissioner i/c Deputy Commissioner, Tawang district. All the Executive Engineers of the concerned departments and the District Planning Officer and the Extra Assistant Commissioner of the district were present in the meeting.

ADC, Lobsang Phunchu interacting with S. Hrangkhol, who came as the representative of the NABARD Consultancy Services NABCONS to monitor the various schemes and their proper implementation said, “the local people of Tawang are expert in house-building and their quality of work in construction is excellent. He also talked on the work-culture in Tawang district and said, “all departments coordinates with the District Administration and other implementing agencies.”

Hrangkhol, was assigned 35 projects to monitor was here from 25th of last month for the same. “My visit has been fruitful and all the works are satisfactory, only for a small portion in a teachers’ quarter in Jang some cracks have developed but he said. “Considering the local weather this is very natural,” he added. Telephone exchange commissioned at Chayangtajo

ITANAGAR, Feb 1: One of the first major development achievement in the Chayangtajo constituency has taken place in the form of establishment of telephone exchange at Chayangtajo. It was commissioned on January 31, last, informed Chayangtajo MLA Karya Bagang.

The MLA after having consultation with the DGM, Itanagar, JTOs Seppa and telephone exchange, Chanyangtajo said that more parallel private connection shall be given on availability of cable. Bagang extended thanks to the department of communication (BSNL) for their cooperation.

Nyishi Youth Convention ends successfully

ITANAGAR, Feb 1: Tassar Sonia from Papum Pare walked away with the crown of most coveted title of Miss Nyishi 2010 and also sub-title of the Miss Personality in the four-day long VIIIth Nyishi Youth Convention which concluded at Daporijo yesterday. The theme of the convention was "Exploring the Excellence."

Licha Jeri from Lower subansiri won the 1st Runner up and Nabam Lucy from Papum Pare won 2nd Runner up and the sub-title of Miss Beautiful photogenic. The other sub-title winners were Tassar Reshmi for Miss Beautiful Hair, Fepi Natung for Miss cat-walk, Tame Meka for Miss Beautiful Smile and Devi Nguri for Best Designer.

The Miss Nyishi 2010 was given away with cash prize of rupees 25000, one Maruti Car sponsored by MLA Takam Tagar (Pario), 6 months computer certificate course by P.C.A Academy, Itanagar and sponsorship of Miss Arunachal and Miss North East Contest. The 1st runner up was awarded with cash prize of rupees 20000 and a scooty sponsored by M/s Ave Maria Motor, Nirjuly and 3 months computer course sponsored by P.C.A Academy, Itanagar. The 2nd Runner up won a cash prize of Rs 20000 and Samsung T.V and 3 months computer course sponsored by P.C.A. Academy.

The valedictory-cum- Miss Nyishi Contest 2010 was inaugurated by PWD and UD Minister Nabam Tuki as the chief guest. He was accompanied by MLAs Punji Mara, Tapin Siga and other dignitaries.

The events in the convention include the Tai Bida Football Trophy, Tallang Hira Volleyball (men), Nyari Welly Volleyball (women), Taba Mala Cultural Nite competition, Achung Tajo Archery Competition, Dera Natung Literary Competition, Tana Doya Marathon Race, Nabam Tata Athletics Competition and Miss Nyishi Contest 2010.

The Tai Bida Football Ball (men) was lifted by Kurung Kumey district, Nyari Welly Volley Ball (women) won by Papum Pare district, Tallang Hira Volley Ball went to Lower Subansiri district. The Kurung Kumey district was adjudged as the champion district of the VIIIth Nyishi Youth Convention and the Trophy of discipline Team was gone to Papum Pare district.

Earlier, the convention was inaugurated by Health and Family Welfare Minister Tanga Byaling as the Chief Guest and Parliamentary Secretary of Food & Civil Supplies Lokam Tassar as the Guest of Honour and it was also attended by the MLA Tapen Siga, NES president Bengia Tollum, AAPSU president Takam Tatung as the Special Guests. The delegates from all Nyishi areas along with senior students of the Nyishi community participated the convention.

Week-long computer programme begins

ITANAGAR, Feb 1: A week-long Computer Training Programme on "Introduction to MS Excel-I" commenced from today at Administrative Training Institute, Naharlagun.

The Training Programme is being organized under the 100% course fee assistance of the DoPT, Govt. of India under its plan assistance for 2009-10.

Altogether, 23 participants from the level of LDC/ UDC/ Asstt./ PA are undergoing the course.

Speaking on the occasion, Director (Training) Pema Tshetan called upon all the participants to take the training seriously. Adding that ATI strongly emphasized on the need of every Government Functionaries particularly at the lower and middle level to acquire proper knowledge & skill on Computer usage as the effective functioning of Government offices and Departments primarily depends on the quality output by its work force and developing of a strong and reliable e¬-record management system in their respective establishment/ Departments.

He further that the training despite being an effective tool of making a person perfect in his/her field of job is however given the least importance and this have resulted in poor performance level all-round. On the other hand, the availability of qualitative workers is equally becoming scares and declining in almost every Department/ offices. The Director cautioned the participants to rise to the occasion and inculcate sincerity in their own field of duties & responsibilities and assured that sincerity and hard working persons will always be adored & remains in demand for the management and superior officers as there is no substitute for hard work.

The training course on MS Excel - I is being conducted with the faculty support from Manipal Institute of Computer Education (MICE), Naharlagun Centre and 2senior Resource Persons Arunima Kutliya and Santhosh Das.

Earlier, the Course Coordinator, Assistant Director Training Prescilla Tayeng and Deputy Director training T. Lodo, highlighted the detail training facilities arranged by the Institute.

MLA inaugurates link road

KHONSA, Feb 1: MLA Kamthok Lowang inaugurated a 10-Km link Road from Changlang-Khonsa road to Ngonthong village constructed by PWD under SPA amid a huge gathering on Jan 29. The inaugural function was attended by Lowang, EAC, T. Aran, EE, PWD, HoDs and villagers including from neighbouring Changlang District.

In his inaugural address, the MLA while appreciating the effort of the PWD for timely completion of the new link road, asked the people to cooperate with the government departments and work hard for all round development of the area. He said that development dose not set in, in a day but takes time and asked the people to work unitedly cutting across party affiliation. The MLA further told the villagers to execute the government schemes sincerely and utilize the funds judiciously.

EAC, Aran, EE, PWD, D.P.Singh, HoDs and village leaders also spoke in the meeting. The chiefs GBs and public leaders lauded the effort of the MLA who had initiated many developmental schemes in the area. The villagers of Ngonthong, Jatthung and Lanwang submitted public memorandum during the meeting.

Performers of NyishiYouth Convention hailed

ITANAGAR, Feb 1: While congratulating Tassar Soniya, daughter of Tassar Sokap, for winning Miss Nyishi 2010 contest at 8th Nyishi Youth convention held at Daporijo, Sree Abu Welfare Society appealed to all others to come forward and show their hidden talents in different fields.

The society also congratulated Tassar Reshmi, daughter of Tassar Talar for winning the ‘Miss Beautiful Hair’ title in the contest.

Meanwhile, All Kurung Kumey District Students’ Union lauded the brilliant performance shown by the participants of Kurung Kumey district in different events at the convention. The Kurung Kumey team retained the Tai Bida Memorial Football trophy for the 4th successive year.

PWS raising day celebrated

ITANAGAR, Feb 1: Panggi Welfare Society has celebrated its 11th Raising Day in a colourful manner at Ngorlung village under Ruksin Sub-division , East Siang on January 31 last. Around 3000 members took part in the celebration, said the Society in a release.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion as chief guest ADC Rajesh Panyang urged upon the members present to maintain communal harmony and adopt policy of ‘each one teach one’. He also highlighted the importance and significance of the Society.

East Siang deputy commissioner Onit Panyang, former president of the Society, suggested that PWS should not confine itself within the Panggi community only, but should try to widen the activities with the other communities also by involving their members in such occasion for better interaction and upliftment of the society. He also spoke on punctuality and discipline.

Kangkiram Padun, vice chairman, state forest corporation and Tonggeng Panyang, gen secretary PWS and Ojing Aje joint secretary PWS also spoke on the occasion.

AUSDSU suspends educational tour

ITANAGAR, Feb 1: All Upper Subansiri District Students’ union (AUSDSU) has postponed its Educational tour cum Awareness campaign scheduled from February two due to skirmishes between CRPF and local people on Jan. 31. The tour cum awareness campaign would be carried out in the next session as examinations are due to start from February 15.

Mazdoor union office inaugurated at Ziro

ITANAGAR, Feb 1: The office of the Mazdoor Union Ziro (MUZ) was inaugurated yesterday by District Labour Officer Tore Ete at Ziro.

The union was formed in 2005 with the motto of "Live and Let Live" to preserve and promote unity, fraternity and integrity among the mazdoor community, including daily wage earner, carpenter, mason, cobbler, barber, mutia (Coolie), agriculture labourers and other labourers of Ziro-Hapoli.

The union also uphold the dignity, identity and security, create the sense of welfare and mutual cooperation of the mazdoor in particular and the society as a whole, said a release issued by MUZ.

Capacity Building Workshop for Karuna Trust staff

ITANAGAR, Feb 1: Karuna Trust organized a three days capacity building cum orientation program for its PHC staff from Jan 29 to 31 at Vivekananda Hall, R.K Mission Hospital campus, Itanagar. The main objective of the training programs was to evaluate the service delivery system provided in the nine PHCs managed by the Trust for the last four years in Arunachal Pradesh. The program also includes technical session from different resource persons of the state to enhance the knowledge & skill of the PHC staff.

In his inaugural speech Mission Director, National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh Talem Tapok expressed his satisfaction about the performance of the nine Primary health Centres being managed by Karuna Trust for the last four years. He urged the PHC staff to continue their spirit of hard work and appealed them to deliver their best services for the people of Arunachal Pradesh.

Total 49 Medical and Paramedical staff from Arunachal and 10 staff from Meghalaya PHCs participated in the training program. It can be mentioned that karuna Trust is also managing three PHCs under PPP with Govt. of Meghalaya also since 2009.

Dr L Jampa, State Epidemiologist, Dr Hibu Tagyung, Senior Child Specialist from Arunachal State Hospital, Naharlagun, Dr P. J Sarma, NRHM State Facilitator, Dr Millo Bakhang, Gynaeocologist, and Dr(Mrs) Kumkum Borah , ENT specialist from RK Mission Hospital, were the resource persons for the training program.

Karuna Trust also awarded PHC Walong in Anjaw Dist as the best reporting PHC for this year and Etalin PHC in Dibang Valley as the second best performing PHC. Mission Director NRHM presented the award to the team.

Jarken lauded

ITANAGAR, Feb 1: The feat achieved by Jarken Gamlin, who became the first Arunachalee to be promoted as Brigadier of Gorkha Regiment, has been lauded by Kargu Kargi Students’ Union (KKSU).

Gamlin, also a Bishist Seva medalist, hails from a remote village of Tego Gamlin under Yomcha circle of West Siang district.

His achievement is not only a personal feat but also an inspiration for the youths of Arunachal Pradesh, especially rural areas.

Talar takes part in ranking tourney

ITANAGAR, Feb 01: Laa Talar of Arunachal Pradesh lost his singles quarterfinal match to Aditya Joshi of Madhya Pradesh and reached semifinals in doubles u-16 years category at All India Junior Ranking Badminton Tournament held at Chipalkati, Pune from Jan. 27 to 31 last.

Talar lost to Aditya 21-19, 12-21, 16-21 in singles while in doubles, Talar pairing with Sai Tanuj of Andhra Pradesh squandered a first set lead and finally surrendered to the pair of KP Chetnya and Chetna Reddy 21-19, 16-21,17-21.

Talar also participated in both singles and doubles event of U-19 year category and lost in first round of singles and reached upto second round in doubles.

Another player from Arunachal Pradesh Jokam Ribya made early exit from both the singles and doubles of u-16 and u-19 years category.

Arun George of Kerala and Sameer Verma of Madhya Pradesh were the winners in boys singles u-16 and 19-years category respectively.

ITANAGAR, Feb 1: Rural Dev.& Panchayat Raj Minister Takar Marde would attend the Nyokum Yullo celebration at Boasimla, Lower Subansiri on February 28 as chief guest while Raga MLA Nido Pavitra would be the guest of honour.
